Course:        
Dental Foundations – Interprofessional training

Date:            Tuesday 16th – Wednesday 17th June (travel to Ireland 15th)

Location:      IM3 Training Centre Drogheda, Ireland.

Aim:
This is a 2 day in person training session hosted at the IM3 Training centre in Ireland and led by a highly experienced Linnaeus dentists and RVNs. Throughout the course we will explore how interprofessional teamwork can support the delivery of high-quality dental care. There will be theory and practical sessions covering preventative oral care, charting, scale and polish technique, equipment maintenance, dental radiography, anaesthesia considerations and local anaesthetic techniques. Day 1 will be Nurses only and day 2 will be Nurses and Vets. We will be using cadaver heads for the practical’s.

N.B. Participants must agree not to exceed their locally or nationally defined scope of practice and understand that this may be subject to regulation and enforcement.

Hotel:
A room has been booked for you at for the nights of 15th and 16th June and further details will be shared closer to the time. Evening meals will need to be paid for by yourself and claimed back via expenses.

Travel:
You will need to organise your own flights to Dublin airport (DUB), for the evening of Monday 15th June.

A transfer bus is available for you and will collect you from Zone 16/Coach Park at 7pm. Please ensure the flights booked will allow you to get though the airport. You will be meet under the covered walk-way that leads to the coach parking area by a person holding a sign saying Linnaeus.

A transfer will take you back to Dublin airport on the Wednesday 17th for 6pm – please arrange a flight home with enough time after this.

9:15-9:30            Bus departs from hotel

10:00-10:30        Intro to training facility and H&S briefing by IM3 team

10:30-10:45        Linnaeus welcome, introduction and overview

10:45-11:45        Introduction to common oral pathologies

11:45-12:30        The RVNs role in preventative oral health care

12:30-13:15        Lunch

13:15-14:45        Periodontal therapy (theory and practical)

14:45-15:15        Equipment maintence

15:15-15:30        Anaesthesia for the dental patient

17:00                  Travel to hotel

Course Day 2       Wednesday 17th June

08:15-08:30          Bus departure from hotel
09:00-9:30            Day 2 intro and collaborative training group allocation
Morning                 Group 1 – Local anaesthetic techniques (theory and practical) and charting, Group 2 – Radiography Practical     

12:00-12:45          Lunch (Provided)
Afternoon              Group 2 – Local anaesthetic techniques (theory and practical) and charting, Group 1 – Radiography practical   

15:30- 16:30         All: Case based radiography discussion

17:00                   Bus departs for airport

By signing up the participant is agreeing not to exceed their locally or nationally defined scope of practice and  understand that this may be subject to regulation and enforcement.

Before signing up ensure that you have sign off from your line manager/ PM to attend. You will also be ask to provide a name of a Veterinary Surgeon within the practice that will support/supervise you to utilise and embed these new skills and knowledge into your daily practice.
