AniCura, one of Europe’s leading providers of high-quality veterinary care for companion animals, acquires Dierenziekenhuis Drechtstreek. The partnership is the result of a shared vision and pursuit to develop advanced veterinary care of the future. The acquisition strengthens AniCura’s position within specialised second-line as well as first-line veterinary services in the Drechtstreek area in the Netherlands. It also provides Dierenziekenhuis Drechtstreek with a solid partner and a European network of knowledge sharing.
Dierenziekenhuis Drechtstreek, of which Diergeneeskundig Verwijscentrum Dordrecht is a part, was founded in 1940 and has been in the co-ownership of Marcel Reijers, Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, since 2000. In the past 16 years Dierenziekenhuis Drechtstreek has grown from a local first-line practice to a regional practice with national referral services. At the present time, the team comprises 70 veterinary professionals who provide high quality veterinary services to 22 000 patients per year in one of the largest referral centres in the Netherlands, Diergeneeskundig Verwijscentrum Dordrecht and six first-line clinics.
With five board certified veterinary specialists (Diplomates), two residents and a large number of additional advanced doctors in veterinary medicine, Diergeneeskundig Verwijscentrum Dordrecht offers a comprehensive depth of specialities, such as surgery (including neurosurgery and advanced orthopaedics), internal medicine, dermatology, diagnostic imaging, dentistry and emergency and critical care. The referral centre, which is open around-the-clock and admits referred patients from a large part of the Netherlands, is located in a 1 000 square metres building equipped with three surgery rooms, a large intensive care unit and nursing wards as well as an adjacent centre for diagnostic imaging including both technology for and advanced expertise in CT (Computed Tomography) and MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging).
─ Diergeneeskundig Verwijscentrum Dordrecht is one of the fastest growing veterinary specialist care provider in the Netherlands, which gives us great opportunities for shaping the future in veterinary medicine, but also creates a need for a professional and strong partner. As a part of AniCura we can provide our staff with vast opportunities for knowledge sharing, networking and learning as well as the typical benefits of being part of a larger setting. The way forward is through cooperation and AniCura is the answer, says Marcel Reijers, Practise Manager Diergeneeskundig Verwijscentrum Dordrecht.
─ We are very pleased to welcome Diergeneeskundig Verwijscentrum Dordrecht to our family of European specialised veterinary care providers. I am convinced that this partnership creates opportunities to further the development of high quality care to the benefit of companion animals and pet owners in search of a professional veterinary partner as well as ambitious and passionate professionals on the quest to enhance their skills and further develop advanced veterinary care, says Peter Dahlberg, Group CEO AniCura.
