First-line dermatology - how to approach the itchy patient

This course gives insight into the practical approach of the itchy, pruritic, dog and cat. Focus areas will be common causes of pruritus in both species, specifically with focus on underlying allergies and secondary skin infections.

The course has elements of skin immunology but will primarily be with a practical approach on how to reach a diagnosis and how to manage food allergy and atopic dermatitis in dogs and cats. Discussions on the advantages and disadvantages of the available antipruritic therapy options for dogs and cats will be covered. There will be several dermatology cases along the way and open discussions on how to approach and manage these.

The course is aimed at veterinarians in general practice.

Learning Objectives

After this course, the course participants will be able to :

  • Identify common causes of pruritus in dogs and cats
  • Identify clinical presentations of secondary skin infections and underlying allergy
  • Appreciate differences in allergies between in dogs and cats
  • Understand diagnostic approaches in allergies and how to interpret them
  • Manage pruritus in dogs and cats with underlying allergies
  • Understand effects and side effects of antipruritic drugs
  • Understand the principles of allergen-specific immunotherapy (ASIT)

Practical Information

If, due to increased COVID-19 restrictions, we are unable to run the course on-site in Copenhagen as planned. We would however recommend to book refundable tickets if booking travel far ahead of time.

Course fee 

The course fee is EUR 680 (excl VAT) for Non-AniCurians.

Travel and Hotel 

Costs for travel and accommodation are not included in the course fee.

It is recommended to book the room as soon as possible as there is a high demand for rooms in this hotel.
